Making each word work for you!
TRAVEL WRITING – Becky Linhardt, MTWA
A member of Midwest Travel Writers Association (name change to Midwest Travel Journalists Association in 2017) since 2003, my travel writing has earned prestigious Mark Twain Awards, most recently in 2011 – Second Place, Short Copy. Since 1999 my specialty has been regional travel in the Midwest, specifically the states of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and nearby West Virginia and Tennessee. In the resume section below you will find links to a variety of recent stories.
STATE At the May 19, 2012 semi-annual meeting of the NFPW/Ohio Professional Writers in Columbus, Ohio awards were presented to the winners of their annual writing competition. I received FIRST PLACE – Specialty Articles, Travel.
NATIONAL As a First Place award winner for the state of Ohio my submission was forwarded to the NFPW national competition where it won THIRD PLACE – Specialty Articles, Travel to be awarded at the September convention of NFPW in Scottsdale, AZ.
“Assignments that I have given to Becky have been well-written and on time, often submitted before the given deadline.” Sarah Williamson, Editor, Over the Back Fence Magazine
In recent years, newspapers and even magazines have cut back or eliminated their travel sections. I continue to write for Long Weekends, Group Tour Magazine, and occasionally Buckeye Power’s Country Living. However, I have been doing more work within the visual arts community – have a studio at the Sharonville Cultural Arts Center and exhibit and sell my photographs and paintings regionally. My newest adventure was participating as an extra for a film being produced here in Cincinnati. I am semi-retired and life is good.

COPYWRITING – WORKING WORDS
Educated in communications and the visual arts, I find that I work/design with words. I am a successfully published writer with experience in the travel and leisure markets and an interest in a variety of other business areas. My writing projects are organized, easy to read, and communicate effectively – clever and fun, too when appropriate to the project.
MY COMMITMENT TO YOU
Solid Writing ………..Making Each Word Work!
Clear and simple words that work for your project may be all that you need. I can provide good copy to effectively communicate your unique message.
Sometimes you need copy that is a bit unconventional. I can draw upon my many years in marketing, writing and a variety of life experiences to help find that unique or catchy word or phrase that works even better.
As a freelance writer I can offer you good writing at a good price. I may not have all of the resources of a big agency but I may have just the right services for your project.
You can count on me to give you my best work as a writer, to be honest about my abilities, and to meet your deadlines.
That’s just the way I work – always!
Long Weekends continues as a semi-annual supplement to Ohio Magazine, sleeved with April and September issues. GLP has moved from archiving on their web site to providing access to an app platform that can be found through links at www.long-weekends.com. I have had an article with byline in every print issue since 2009.
For Great Lakes Custom Printing, I wrote the Southwest Ohio section for the 2016 Ohio Travel Guide.
Assignments from Group Tour Magazine have been numerous though my byline may not appear on all articles.
I continue to receive some assignments from Buckeye Power’s Country Living.
As a volunteer I edit the monthly Midwest Travel Journalists Association members’ MTJA e-Newsletter.

The Cincinnati Enquirer Although I had been a regular contributing writer to the Cincinnati Enquirer (1999-2011 with 20-28 stories published each year), the Gannett IT systems only archived stories for 60-90 days. In 2011 the Cincinnati Enquirer began to use mostly wire service travel stories. Only two of my travel stories were published that year and in July the Enquirer discontinued publishing travel stories. Now archived articles can only be accessed for a fee.
