If I had to describe myself with one word it would be artist - a visual artist and an artist with words. My artwork is included in Ohio Online Visual Arts Registry. I'm working with various galleries in the Midwest to promote my oil paintings and abstract light photography.

Inspirations for Home Design

My Old Kentucky Home – Bardstown

May the Sun Shine Bright

Recent renovations/restorations have brightened the interiors of Federal Hill, the famous mansion in Bardstown that is more commonly known as My Old Kentucky Home. It is believed that this beautiful home was the inspiration for the song by Stephen Foster, a cousin of the owners, the Rowan family. Tradition says it was penned by Stephen Foster at the large desk in the entry hall while visiting Federal Hill.

Always an imposing mansion, the brick Federal-style home was built by John Rowan in the early 19th century but has been restored to the time period of Stephen Foster 1845-55. “We have tried to capture the spirit of the time, feeling that it was most important to portray the affluent family, prominent in both state and national politics and business,” said Ron Langdon, curator.

Costumed interpreters guide visitors through the house adding to the ambience of its recent restoration to pre-Civil War splendor. The boldly patterned reproduction fabrics, wallpapers, and historic paint colors compliment the many Rowan family original furnishings and artworks with dramatic effect. Even more dramatic are the stories of the family’s triumphs and tragedies that you will hear as you tour through the home.

You can wander the lovely gardens, visit a statue of Stephen Foster, and during the summer attend outdoor performances of “Stephen Foster – The Musical.”

Because of the extensive acreage of the property, My Old Kentucky State Park has been able to develop areas away from the mansion for recreational purposes – a golf course and a popular campground.
