Polar Bears and More – Louisville Zoo
While humans suffer the indignities of winter’s cold bite, the polar bears, brown bears and other Arctic animals that inhabit Polar Frontier at the Louisville Zoo are enjoying the cooler weather in their new habitat that mimics the recent interactions of wild bears with the human population. In fact, three of the bears are living in Louisville because in Montana they were declared “nuisance bears.” They had become just a bit too familiar with towns, dumps, etc.
Above is a link to the story that I wrote for Long Weekends about the Montana Mom and her two cubs (one shown in the image above), polar bears, artic foxes and Arctic animals. It is so much more fun to visit them in the late winter or early spring when they actively enjoy the cold. Heated viewing areas allow humans to watch their antics in comfort.
