The look on my face must have been priceless. I was on the run so I bought just one key lime truffle and popped it in my mouth – HEAVEN. The next customer in line asked, “What did she buy?” She did not ask me because I could not have responded. My mouth was full – filled with mingling tastes of a tangy lime center and the rich dark chocolate coating.
“When I chose the name, The Best Chocolate in Town, I was confident,” said owner, Elizabeth Garber. “I didn’t think it was arrogant. It gave me a goal, a reason to uphold quality.” Her customers believe in that quality. The business has grown in 10 years from wholesale production to an established shop on Massachusetts Avenue that recently expanded.
You can watch through the windows as chocolatiers hand dip the delicacies, or give into temptation and enter the shop. “Our staff works together, suggesting, trying and tasting each flavor until it is right,” said Garber. More than 30 flavors are available including standards such as an AmarettoTruffle, milk chocolate with nuts and more unique flavors such as a Ginger Wasabi cq Truffle, dark chocolate with crystallized ginger, or the Gorg with a center of dark chocolate ganache/buckwheat honey/gorgonzola cheese, coated with dark chocolate and topped with a toasted walnut.
Special seasonal flavors – Eggnog, Candy Cane, and Gingerbread – are produced at Christmas; foil wrapped eggs and chocolate bunnies are available at Easter.
