If I had to describe myself with one word it would be artist - a visual artist and an artist with words. My artwork is included in Ohio Online Visual Arts Registry. I'm working with various galleries in the Midwest to promote my oil paintings and abstract light photography.

Carter’s Toy Museum – Zionsville

A Blast from the Past!

“My grandfather started collecting early. His mom was also a collector so it’s a bit of a family tradition,” said Rachel Carter, manager. “Some of the toys date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s.” As owner of Carter’s Van Lines (established 1928) he had available storage space so he acquired larger items and the collection grew. Carter’s Antique Toy Museum opened at Christmas time in 2007.

Many of the toys exhibited there may be more familiar to adults. “We have 42 coin-operated rides in the basement – rockets, chariots, horses, etc. – the kind you would find just inside or outside of stores years ago. We also have a small bumper car set-up downstairs,” said Carter. “Then there is the carousel on the second floor so there are plenty of choices for active children to enjoy.” The coin-operated rides take quarters, $.50 per ride, and there is a change machine nearby.

The museum, a three-story brick building that has a Victorian storefront look was custom-constructed on what was once a vacant lot. It includes a small gift shop and soda shop reminiscent of the 1950’s with juke box, neon signs, and fun food like hand-made ice creams and sherbets, burgers, pizza, pulled pork barbeque sandwiches, etc.
