If I had to describe myself with one word it would be artist - a visual artist and an artist with words. My artwork is included in Ohio Online Visual Arts Registry. I'm working with various galleries in the Midwest to promote my oil paintings and abstract light photography.

Cherry Republic: Michigan

Cherry Republic:  Land of Life, Liberty, Beaches, and Pie

The Cherry Festival is a BIG event each summer in Traverse City, Michigan.  Not surprisingly, college kids try to figure out a way to make a buck during the festival.  One from nearby Glen Arbor had an idea.  “Bob (Sutherland) started the business selling Cherry Republic t-shirts during the festival more than 20 years ago,” said Jason Homa director of retail operations at Cherry Republic. “Then came the Boomchunka cookies, packaged dried cherries and numerous other products.  We’ve been talking about fudge for years and for our 20th anniversary, we introduced fudge – 10 unique cherry flavors.”

Playing with the theme of the Cherry Republic as the land of Life, Liberty, Beaches, and Pie, a retail complex was established in Glen Arbor, now considered to be the “Capital of the Cherry Republic.”

Tall trees shade the paths the interconnect the Great Hall of the Republic where there are over 150 cherry products available including cherry salsas, preserves, and the fudge; the Winery, where parents can taste a variety of cherry wines and kids can sample Boomchuggalugga Cherry Soda Pop; and the Café & Bakery for those wonderful Boomchunka cookies and more. In recent years, “embassy” stores has been opened in Traverse City and Charlevoix, Michigan..

And yes, they still sell Cherry Republic t-shirts – at all locations
