If I had to describe myself with one word it would be artist - a visual artist and an artist with words. My artwork is included in Ohio Online Visual Arts Registry. I'm working with various galleries in the Midwest to promote my oil paintings and abstract light photography.

Paint Your Own – Louisville Stoneware

Creating for memories and more

© Becky Linhardt 2010

Looking for a creative and meaningful gift?  Consider creating memories with a weekend getaway with your family or friends?  Maybe it could also include creating gifts for other friends and family, gifts they will treasure for years to come at a studio such as the one at Louisville Stoneware.  They have a year round Paint Your Own program and in November and December it is very busy as people gather to make personalized gifts.

“We have families come in to paint Christmas ornaments; women designing their own cookie or meat platter for the Holidays,” said Emily Blanford at the retail store where the Paint Your Own program is based.

The painting sessions often have a party atmosphere since groups are allowed to bring their own refreshments, set to the side though so that there is plenty of room at the painting tables.   Individuals are welcome too.  If you have a special project, the staff can advise and assist.

“Some Louisville families have a tradition of coming in on a baby’s first birthday and imprinting the baby’s footprints or handprints on the small ovals or disks to give to grandparents or as a keepsake for their family,” said Blanford.

Participants in the Paint Your Own program can select from almost any shape that is part of the regular production of quality, handmade stoneware, made from regional clay.  Studio sessions are 1 ½ hours to 2 hours.  You have many choices to consider so some advance planning is suggested before you arrive.

The glazes that you can paint onto the unfired “greenware” items include almost all of the colors normally used on Louisville Stoneware’s own products.  Your “greenware” is the same handmade product from the factory: plates, mugs, bowls, vases, platters, and at Christmas even figurines such as small nutcracker soldiers and snowmen.  Christmas ornament forms include basic 3 ½ disks, gothic window shapes, angel forms, Christmas tree and nutcracker styles.
