If I had to describe myself with one word it would be artist - a visual artist and an artist with words. My artwork is included in Ohio Online Visual Arts Registry. I'm working with various galleries in the Midwest to promote my oil paintings and abstract light photography.

Inspirations for Home Design

Rural Cool

© Becky Linhardt

Named the 4th Coolest Small Town in America by Budget Travel in 2009, Vevay exudes a charming “Rural Cool”.  The town has only one stoplight.  Life is a bit more relaxed than Cincinnati or Louisville about 1 ½ hours away by the fast route through Kentucky or about 2 ½ hours via the Ohio River Scenic Highway in Indiana –a much slower but very rewarding river hugging drive.

What’s Special

The many overnight accommodation choices

It seems as though there is something to meet anyone’s style or budget.  Belterra Resort is elegant and has a prime location along the river.  The recently renovated Ogle Haus Best Western beautiful views of the river as does the beautiful Rosemont Inn. B&B.  The huge Schenck Mansion B&B Inn has spacious rooms and is rumored to still have a few ghosts in residence.  There are many more options, even an RV resort.

The art and artists

The town has quite a few artists with galleries and studios you can visit during the day and on First Friday there are extra events as the galleries and quirky shops.

Often there are drama or musical presentations scheduled at the historic Hoosier Theatre.

Life on the Ohio Museum offers an overview of the town’s history and relationship with the Ohio River commerce.  The Switzerland County Historical Museum next door has some fascinating displays.

Old-fashioned hardware store

A few blocks from the river on Ferry St. is Danner’s Hardware, considered to be the sate’s oldest continually operated business still at its original site.  Family owned, the store has a mix of old and new products and still weighs nails, nuts and bolts on the same 100 year-old scale.

Winery with a view

Upriver you can enjoy a beautiful view of the river from the deck or tasting room of Ridge Winery one six wineries along the Indiana Wine Trail.

Wine Festival each August

The wine culture runs deep here, tracing back to early Swiss settlers in the area who planted vineyards on sunny riverside slopes.  Switzerland County has valid claims to having the first commercial winery in the United States and celebrates that heritage late in August of each year with the Swiss Wine Festival.

Belterra Casino Resort & Spa – golf too

Think of Belterra as an upscale resort offers riverboat gambling. This is a very modern property, very elegant yet more casual because of rural location.  I’ve been told that the golf course is fun and challenging.  There is a spa for the ladies and the guys after their rounds of golf.  The hotel also has a dynamic venue for the nationally known musical artists that are booked in, usually on weekends.  The riverboat casinois docked near the hotel.

The name Dagaz Acres may seem odd but the experience on their zipline course is awesome and includes tandem lines at the beginning that encourage friendly challenges to see who reaches the other side of the ravine first.  Then it’s up into the treetops for a canopy tour.
