If I had to describe myself with one word it would be artist - a visual artist and an artist with words. My artwork is included in Ohio Online Visual Arts Registry. I'm working with various galleries in the Midwest to promote my oil paintings and abstract light photography.

The Inn on Kelleys Island

Lakefront Living – if only for a few nights

© Becky Linhardt 2010

In recent years, when I have visited the island, I stay at The Inn on Kelleys Island, where the reasonable pricing in season gets me a piece of history and a great lake view. The white clapboard bed & breakfast inn is in a residential area, one of many Victorian style houses along Lakeshore Drive on the island’s south shore.

What’s Special

Views of the lake

From their rock beach, lawn, or the front porch you can watch water birds and recreational boats on the lake during the day.  At night, you can see the lights that mark the entrance to Sandusky Bay on the mainland.  On the east, the roller coasters of Cedar Point tower above the trees and often you can even see the fireworks displays.  On the west side, light twinkle in summer homes and from the beam of Marblehead Lighthouse.

Easygoing, relaxed stay

Both the front porch and an open lawn are set with comfortable chairs for lounging.  The décor of the Inn is very casual, summer cottage style. Sand on your shoes, rocks you collected from the beach, it’s OK. Most days are pleasant enough to enjoy without turning on the AC, letting the lake breezes flow through the screened windows and doors carry away the tensions of modern life.

Owners are active members of the Kelleys Island Audubon Club

Innkeeper/owners Lori DeBord and Pat Hayes can direct you to some of the best places to hike, give you advice on kayaking, and let you know if the Bald Eagles returned to the island this year.  There is a big butterfly bush that attracts Monarch butterflies in late August and early September and Pat enjoys teaching guests how to tag them.  Pat’s gardening skills include lots of colorful dahlias.

More than 100 years of history

You can admire Lori’s collection of historic images of her family’s Great Lakes heritage and listen to stories of island history.
